What Sustainability and Alternative Energy Mean to Altice USA

In the video, Roelie Cronje, VP of Health, Safety, and Environment at Altice USA, and Peter Ramgolam, Energy Professional on the Environmetal Sustainability Team and Director of Procurement at Altice USA, discuss our perspective on sustainability, Alternative Energy, and how much we’ll reduce our environmental impact.

The realities of human and business impact on the environment grow more apparent and more pressing every day. And consumers, now more than ever, expect the brands they follow to be environmentally conscious. A shared commitment to sustainability is necessary, and businesses too need to own up to their share of contributions.

That’s because corporate social responsibility is not a ‘nice-to-have’. It’s a business imperative that must be inherent to our mission and brand. Our company’s worth and success are based not only on revenue or how many customers we reach, but also on our social and environmental impact.

At Altice USA, we’re always looking to the future, because innovation is in our DNA. We don’t rest when it comes to looking for ways to improve and simplify how we, as a company, achieve our goals. That means we’re not afraid to shake things up. To progress and endure, we’re constantly evaluating where we can step up and be more efficient in the short and long term.

As a part of our long-term commitment to becoming a zero-harm company, we’re beginning to introduce Alternative Energy methods to Altice USA, including Fuel Cells and Solar Panels in our Bethpage location and Community Distributed Generation (CDG) in our NYC locations.

  • Fuel Cells: Utilizes an electrochemical process to convert natural gas into electricity with no combustion, very high efficiency, and low emissions
  • Solar Panels: Converts sunlight (solar radiation) into direct current electricity
  • Community Distributed Generation aka Shared Renewables Program: Participants of the NY CDG program can join together to democratize the benefits of local renewable energy projects. Altice USA will enroll over 4,900 Coned power supply accounts in the program.

While the changes will begin in our Bethpage and NYC locations, more importantly, these projects represent what we’re capable of doing across the entire Company and puts us on the path to where we want and need to be in terms of environmental care and responsibility. We’ll reduce Green House Gas emissions, increase the efficiency of electricity generation, and reduce the quantity of electricity consumed.

As a result of these initiatives, annually, we will in theory:

  • Reduce 23,400,000 lbs. of CO2
  • Avoid burning 11,603,567 lbs of coal
  • Eliminate the equivalent of 2,254 passenger vehicles
  • Avoid consuming 125,400,000 ft3 of natural gas
  • Avoid consuming 1,194,336 gallons of gasoline
  • Plant the equivalent of 13,478 acres of trees

Alternative Energy may be only one piece of the puzzle, but there are endless possibilities to enact positive change. Together has no limits, and sustainability knows no borders! If we’re in this together, there are no limits to how much we can reduce our impact on the environment and ultimately strengthen the ways we mind, respect, and protect the environment, every day, in all things we do.
